James M Quinn

James M. Quinn was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 22, 1979, in Philadelphia, PA James and his sister Kate were raised in Cheltenham, a suburb of Philadelphia.  In his early years, James loved the outdoors, and participated in township sports including soccer and baseball.

James love of the outdoors continued in Wyncote Academy, his high school where he participated in the Outdoor Program.  He traveled on snowshoeing trips to Western Pennsylvania, and the Adirondack Mountains of New York.  James experience in Wyncote provided the impetus to pursue his interests in photography and natural science in New Mexico.

In May 2000, James graduated with highest honors from Community College of Philadelphia with an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Photographic Imaging.  Following an internship in the Santa Fe Photography Workshop, James enrolled in the College of Santa Fe.  At the College of Santa Fe, James designed and implemented a student run recycling program.  His environmental awareness continued to expand during an independent study on water resources.  Discovering the complexity of water issues, James passion was engaged and he knew the field of water policy and law was the next step in his continuing education.  James graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Conservation Science from the College of Santa Fe in May 2003.

Following his graduation, James returned to the College of Santa Fe where he worked as an Assistant Director of Residential Life for five years.  James them enrolled in the University of New Mexico and received a Master’s Degree in Water Resources in May 2007.

James was driven by a passion to change the world.  He drove a bio-diesel car and he liked living on campus because it meant he didn’t have to put more carbon into the atmosphere.  He used every bit of administrative experience and education that the College of Santa Fe gave him to fight the good fight on behalf of the environment, on behalf of the planet’s dwindling resources and water supplies, and on behalf of the American West.

In June 2007, James and his wife Ashley relocated to Albuquerque where James enrolled in the UNM School of Law.  He was tragically killed in a bicycling accident on September 15, 2007.

James lived his life dedicated to his values, his ideals.  His purpose for attending law school was not for self enrichment.  He wanted to give back to society at large, and even one might say the world.
