Location:
NM Highway 124
mile marker 21
Laguna , NM 87038
United States

John was with three friends, Ty Bereskie, Travis Brown and Nicholas Gober, on a cross country bicycle trip to raise money for breast cancer research, an effort they called Pink Pedal.  Having come from Pennsylvania to Albuquerque, they set out from here riding west.  About 50 miles later, near Laguna, NM, John was hit and severely injured.  He died the next day in the hospital, with his parents at his side.

This bicycle fund raising effort touched many lives, but that doesn't begin to tell the story of John's personality and friendly nature.  He is deeply missed by his family and many friends.

This ghost bike was placed originally by a man from Laguna, who placed the bike, only to have New Mexico Department of Transportation District 6 officials take it down.   Duke City Wheelmen Foundation made contact with this individual and help the process along, so that the bike could be re-installed.  About 25 people came from Albuquerque and Laguan to dedicate this ghost bike.

There are many unanswered questions about this crash and we don't know if the driver will be prosecuted.
