Roy Sekreta was hit by a car while riding his bike in a bikes-only protected path on March 1, 2008. According to news accounts, he was thrown into an arroyo from the impact. At last report, there had been no charges against the driver who left the scene but returned a half an hour later.

A family friend spent Monday evening comforting Sekreta's wife.She said the 43-year-old was in his prime.
"Just
that morning, seeing Roy and seeing them walking, riding bikes, and
smiling and now he's gone," said Joy Vasan, a family friend.
Family said Sekreta died doing something he was passionate about.Biking
is one of the things that brought him to the Duke City and his goal
this year was to bike 4,000 miles as a way to help the environment.
A memorial ride in his honor was organised and a ghostbike was dedicated in his honor a year after his crash. The ghostbike has was immediately removed, as reported here.
His death has been remembered by local activists, who have issued a 'share the road' bumper sticker in his memory.
