Daniel Duncan, of Norwalk, Ohio, was struck by a hit-and-run driver while he was on an after-dinner bike ride.
Deputies responding to the accident on W. Va. 20 found Daniel lying in the road; he later died from severe injuries sustained in the crash.
Daniel was just a few weeks into his first year at West Virginia Wesleyan College. But he was already involved in several school activities. The political science major was a member of the school's honors program, jazz ensemble, concert chorale and cycling club, according to college spokesman Bob Skinner in this article.
A ghost bike was installed by his friends at the crash spot.
After the crash, police soon found the truck driven by Roger Lee Harrison, Jr., 23, of French Creek, and charged him with an accident resulting in death and driving under the influence resulting in death. Both are felony charges. But school officials say Duncan's family visited the jail and have forgiven Harrison for what he's done.
