Cyclist killed Tuesday was foreign workerLast Updated: Thursday, April 22, 2010 | 6:15 PM MT CBC News A man killed on his bike in Edmonton this week was a temporary foreign worker who rode a bike so he could send more money home, a friend says.Roman Cutillas, 49, was killed Tuesday when he rode off a sidewalk near 126th Street and 111th Avenue and was hit by a truck. No charges have been laid in the incident."He was trying to save money, so that he would have money to send to the Philippines for his family," said Lyla Gray, who befriended Cutillas not long after he arrived in Edmonton about two years ago."He was quiet, he never complained," she said, in spite of the fact he'd lost his job last year."He had a very hard time when he was laid off. He was so lonely, and he was so worried about his family."Cutillas had just sent his family $200 through a money transfer office the day he was killed, she said.Cutillas has a wife and four children in the Philippines. Gray was the one who had to break the news in a phone call."The first time I told her about what happened she cried so hard I could not even talk to her.""She asked the Filipino community if they could pitch in, so that she could have her husband back."Two former employers, construction companies Ledcor and Bantrel, have each pledged $3,000 to help pay for the return of his remains, Gray said. So has the Christian Labour Association, to which Cutillas used to belong.Gray has also received offers from the community and has opened a trust account for people who want to help.  Play iconA man killed in an accident on a bicycle was a temporary foreign workerCycle tragedy1:55  Roman Cutillas, 49, had just finished sending money to his family in the Philippines when he was killed on his bike Tuesday.
