The paint on the city's first ghost bike of the year had yet to dry when a local group of cyclists learned it had to paint another one following a fatal crash Friday that killed William Boudreau.
"Erecting a ghost bike is always a sombre experience," said Michael Kalmanovitch. "And to erect two in one day is a sad day indeed."
Ghost bikes are bicycles painted white and then placed at the site where a cyclist has been killed in a collision.
The first of two ghost bikes Kalmanovitch erected yesterday was near the intersection of 111 Avenue and Groat Road, where a 77-year-old man was struck by a city bylaw car on Aug. 29.
The senior citizen, whose name has not been released, was hit by the car as the driver was trying to make a left turn.
The cyclist died Wednesday at the hospital.
