Reverend Tom will say a few kind words and then sprinkle the bikes with Holy Water. There is a moment of silence to remember those cyclists we've lost in the past year, a chance for everyone to ring their bicycle bells in celebration of cycling, and we're gone.
All faiths welcome. This is a non-denominational event.
Please note that this event is not organized by the NYC Street Memorial Project. We will be present to read the names of those lost in the past year. For more information about the event, please visit http://theblessingofthebikes.com/.
On this night we gather to pay homage to a Soul Queen. She was a magnificent being amongst us. If you were in her presence you knew that without a doubt that there was something different in the air. The atmosphere would never be the same, and you would be never be the same if you were in her realm. Some called her Solange, DJ Reverend Soul, friend, sister and many other titles befitting a Goddess of her splendor. So come and be with the people who loved her to go out with a melodious bang, and let's shake the very ground in Brooklyn for "our girl". This is not the end only the beginning of being closer to the light. That is where she is, and on this night we will be closer to her than ever as we lift our voices to the Funky Heaven's, because if Solange is there...it just got good!

On October 17, 2009 Craig's friends and family will gather at Hope Lounge (10 Hope Street between Roebling and Havemeyer) for a fundraising party commemorating Craig's life, and to celebrate the joy he brought to everyone who knew him. Craig was known by most for his roaring laugh, contagious smile and outrageous dancing that kept us all entertained.
To kick off the night, a fundraising raffle will take place. Tickets will be available for purchase both at the venue and in advance at craigmurphey.com/raffle for $5 or $20 for 5. Local boutiques, bars, restaurants, artists and musicians have donated prizes ranging in value from $20 to $300 to the raffle. A percentage of the bar's earnings for the night and the entire profit from the raffle tickets will be donated to NYCCAH’s Craig Murphey Fellowship Fund. Our goal is to raise as much as we can to contribute to the funding of next year's Craig Murphey Fellow who will be working directly on anti-hunger efforts with the NYC Coalition Against Hunger (www.nyccah.org). The more we raise, the more good work can be done.
There will also be a hummus cook off from 6-9pm, in honor of one of Craig's favorite foods. Local chefs will enter their best hummus recipe, which will be judged by partygoers who buy a $5 tasting card (all proceeds going to the Fellowship Fund). The winning chef receives a $50 gift certificate to Whisk (whisknyc.com), with runners-up receiving iPhone cases.

T.A. Rides for James on Queens Boulevard
This past August, a young cyclist and a beloved T.A. volunteer, James Langergaard, was struck and killed by a car at Queens Boulevard and 69th Street.
This Friday, T.A. will be holding a special Queens Boulevard Bike Pool ride in honor of James. Please come out and join us to help send a strong message to the community that these casualties of the Boulevard will not be forgotten, and that our work to prevent future tragedies is ever-increasing. The ride will pause at the site of James' crash to dedicate his ghost bike.
Where: Ride meets at the Queens foot of the Queensboro Bridge bike/pedestrian path (Queens Plaza North at Crescent Street in Long Island City), ride ends in Forest Hills
When: Friday, October 2--Riders depart at 6:30 pm
Monthly bike commuter pools on Queens Boulevard are led by T.A.'s Queens Committee to provide cyclists with a safe ride home, and build support for protected space for cyclists on the borough's most iconic roadway.
It is a short, slow ride and every rider's presence will have a significant impact.
