Mickel was found in a ditch with head trauma 25 feet from his bicycle after being crashed into by a hit and run driver. The ghost bike installed in his memory was still standing December 2013.

Mickel W. “Bicycle Boy” Peeler, 51, of Dayton, died Tuesday, June 11, 2013, in Dayton.
Mickel was born November 16, 1961 in Houston, to parents; Edward B. and
Marie F. Crenshaw Peeler, a former resident of Houston, and has resided
in Dayton for the past five years. He was a self-employed yard worker
and enjoyed fishing and riding his bicycle.
Mr. Peeler was preceded in death by his father: Edward Beam Peeler,
mother: Marie F. Crenshaw Peeler, and brother: Edward M. Peeler. He
is survived by his brother: James E. Peeler of Frankston, sister:
Ellen Adams of Waxahachie, sister-in-law: Connie Peeler of Dayton, and
numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
