Joel was killed when the driver of a Jeep traveling in the same direction struck the rear tire of his bicycle, according to news reports. Joel was airlifted to the hospital where he died of his injuries. The 23 year old driver, Sgt Bryan Gullet, was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle, failing to reduce speed to avoid a collision, and failure to maintain a lane, according to news reports on the Jacksonville Police Department's press release. He is currently scheduled to be in court during January 2011.
