This person didn't stop, no skid marks," said Dugan. "He plowed us down like road kill.

"This guy was probably doing 80 miles per hour because, before I could turn around and warn Gordon, he already hit us."

Kleifield had been sidelined by back injuries before returning to a sport he loved. Saturday's ride was his first major ride in years.

"He just thought it was the greatest thing just to be outside riding around, getting to wherever he was going on his bicycle."

After nearly four weeks of what officials described as “a long and difficult investigation,” Kenosha County sheriff’s investigators have taken a McHenry County, Ill., woman into custody for the hit-and-run death of a bicyclist on Aug. 16 near Wilmot.

On Friday afternoon, sheriff’s investigators with the help of Elmhurst, Ill., police, took Barbara Lee, 41, of Spring Grove, Ill., into custody at an Elmhurst residence.

Lee was charged Friday in Kenosha County Circuit Court with felony counts of hit and run causing a fatality and homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle, a misdemeanor count of hit and run causing injury and also was cited with operating a vehicle while her license was revoked.
