Justin Hammons

Justin Hammons, 22, was hit by a car in the 66000 block of East I-94 Frontage Road, North of Highway G in Caledonia. Police reports suggest Hammons, of South Roxana, Ill., was walking the bike on the road at the time and that he was hit sometime between midnight and 2 a.m..

The driver who killed Justin did not stop and has so far not been identified.

Police said a man came into the BP gas station at 7 Mile Road and the East Frontage Road and reported the incident to the clerk, but then left. Officers found Hammons in the northbound lane. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Reports said Hammons had been staying at an address on Highway V and was walking back to that address from a local tavern when he was hit. He had a bicycle with him at the time but was not riding it when he was struck, police said.

The vehicle which hit him was traveling north along the East Frontage Road at the time. It is thought to be a larger vehicle, such as a sports utility vehicle or a pick-up truck, police said. It is also believed to have front end and undercarriage damage.
