9 year old Brandon Lee Wells was hit by 2 cars, both driving 50 miles per hour.

We heard from his father, Mick, who put up a ghost bike in hope that it would slow down cars and encourage drivers to think about cyclists and give them the space they need.

Although initially the ghost bike was met with opposition, one year later its installation was approved.

According to an article in the Gazette:

Tragic bike lad Brandon ‘a free bird flying above'Brandon Lee Wells on a trip to Monte Carlo with his dad Michael

A DEVASTATED family has paid tribute to Brandon Lee
Wells who was killed while out riding his bike over the Easter weekend.

Heartbroken dad Michael
Wells said nine-year-old Brandon was "such a character. He was in a
different class, a league of his own."

Distraught mum Shirene sobbed: "He was loved by everyone. He was
never bad, never naughty.

"He is a free bird flying above me, such a special little boy."

The tragedy happened on Saturday morning at about 11.15am when
Brandon, a pupil at St Joseph's primary school, Broadstairs, was knocked
down as he rode his bike in Dane Court Road where it becomes St Peter's
Road, at the junction with Dane Court Road between Margate and the
family's home in St Peter's.

Within hours flowers, a teddy bear, chocolates and sweets had
been left by friends and family of the little lad along with heartfelt
messages of condolence for the family.

One read: "Bye M8. All our love and hearts go out to all the
family."

Michael, a former solider with 3rd Battalion the Parachute
Regiment, who is originally from Peckham, south east London, said:
"When I went up there I could feel Brandon's spirit. He's tearing
around those fields on his bike.

"He was a London lad through and through."

The family were being comforted by Father David Caine, chairman of
the governors at St Joseph's.

Brandon's grandfather Mostafa Khademzadeh has flown back from his
native Iran to be with his loved ones, including Brandon's brother Reiss
and sister Maddisson.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash which involved two
cars, a silver Peugeot and a blue Ford.
