Barbara was commuting on her bike to her teaching position at Cadwalleter middle school on the last day of school year, when she was struck by the driver of a minivan, according to this news story.

"It is a reflection that her students from three years ago are still stopping by to see her and tell her what a fantastic inspiration she was," explained Barbara's husband, Dave.

Her husband and two children say she was also an avid cyclist.

"She was pretty proud that she could bike as hard as I could every single day.  Day in, day out, wind in the face, going and coming home," said Dave.

Thursday her bike trip to school was her last ride.

"Our last parting words to each other every morning was have a great ride, ride safe," explained Dave.

Police say the driver of a van did not see Barbara, and for some reason veered over, hitting her.

"She was a very safe rider, as am I, always wearing bright colors and lots of reflectors.  That was our number one thing because we did not want this to happen," said Dave.

Despite the tragic incident, Barbara Jean Tronnier's inspiration to learn and to ride, both for fun and the environment, lives on.

"It is going to be a really hard thing to keep doing, but we will," said Dave.

From a memorial page was set up by Barb here.

IN MEMORY OF BARBARA TRONNIER (1965 - 2008)
DEDICATED WIFE, MOTHER, DAUGHTER, SISTER, FRIEND, TEACHER
Our dear Barb was killed while riding her bike to work on the morning of June 5, 2008, in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was an avid cyclist, along with her husband Dave, and she was following every law and safety regulation for bikers on the road.

What happened? Gary Garnese, a 54 year old man who was allegedly undergoing cancer treatment and who allegedly reported to police that he has blackouts, swerved into HER lane and took her life abruptly. He claimed he didn't see her, and he was let go at the scene after taking her from the lives of her beloved husband of 18 years, her two children (McCray, 9, and Bryar, 7), and her greiving family and friends. Blackouts? Medicated? Driving?! He never even hit the brakes - it took hitting two trees and tearing them down to stop his car. An accident? Since when is driving under the influence of medication an acceptible excuse? HE OFFERED NO APOLOGY TO HER FAMILY!
