On a Saturday afternoon, Lennard Woods was riding his bike through Greenwich Park toward Blackheath when a car crashed into him. He was pronounced dead on at the scene. The 21 year old driver of the car that killed him was not charged.
He is survived by his wife Jane and daughters Pippa and Naomi.
Lennard was an active member of the Liberal Democrats and very involved in local politics. He was chair of the Bromley and Chislehurst Liberal Democrats and ran for local office many times. He was also an active member of the Red Lion Tendency, which met at the Red Lion Pub for lunch on Sundays. He is remembered by his many friends on blogs and in local newspapers.
A ghost bike was placed at the scene of the crash by the Greenwich Cyclists, who are working to lower the speed limit in the park to 20 mph but have the ultimate aim of removing cars from the park completely. The Greenwich Cyclists held a ceremony with a moment of silence at the site. The ghost bike was was "'reluctantly removed after a month' following discussions with the Royal Parks" according to this article.
