CENTRAL PARK, NY — A cyclist who collided with a pedestrian in Central Park died two days after the crash, police said.
Charles
Cheeseboro, a 43-year-old Harlem resident, was riding an e-bike Monday
on Central Park's East Drive when he struck a 77-year-old pedestrian in a
crosswalk near Terrace Drive, a popular route that connects East and
West 72nd streets through the park, police said.
When
emergency responders arrived at the scene of the crash they found
Cheeseboro suffering a head wound, police said. EMS rushed the cyclist
to NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on
Wednesday.
The 77-year-old pedestrian was also taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries, police said.

There is a traffic light at the intersection, but police are still
unsure who had the right of way at the time of the collision. The
investigation is ongoing, and no charges have been filed at this time.

His father, Charles Cheeseboro, Sr., 66, told the Daily News his son
used to work with the Doe Fund, a nonprofit that assists homeless
people, but had kidney failure and fell on hard times.
Cheeseboro is survived by four kids, who range in age from 17 to 21.
“I’m just trying to make sure his kids are okay,” Cheeseboro, Sr. said. “He was a significant part of their life.”
Cheeseboro’s sister, Tara Cheeseboro, 47, said her brother loved to ride bikes.
“It’s
a tragedy what happened but he was doing something that he loved,” she
said. “He was outgoing, always kept people laughing.”
