Darren Lewis was killed on 9th avenue, his first day on the job as a bicycle messenger, as he was traveling to the right side of a flat-bed truck. The truck driver took a right-hook onto 29th street without yielding, killing 20-year-old Darren. No charges were filed against the driver for criminality, although summonses were issued for equipment violations. “He was a young guy trying to make a living like everyone else,” said fellow messenger Dwayne Davis.
Darren's ghost bike has since been removed.
