David Oliveras was riding his bike southbound on Williamsbridge Road when he was struck by an SUV.
Initial reports on the crash details were inconsistent, but the one consistent fact is that the vehicle was traveling at a remarkably high speed. According to a report in the New York Post, a witness described the impact as so forceful that it knocked Oliveras out of his sneakers. Hours later a lone sneaker could still be seen on the pavement by the crash site. NBCNewYork reports a witness identifying that Oliveras was near the curb and not in the middle of the street or on the sidewalk when he was struck.
