Hugo Ramirez was struck near the intersection of 48th Street and the
Long Island Expressway at around 7:48 a.m., when a truck going
northbound on 48th Street made a right turn at the intersection and hit
him.
Ramirez, who was also going northbound on 48th Street, was found
unconscious and unresponsive on the street with severe head injuries. He
was taken to Elmhurst Hospital where he was pronounced dead. according to Sunnyside Post
Sources said the incident was captured on surveillance video by cameras overlooking the scene.
One
witness said the trucker had a dispute with another motorist, then sped
away and struck the deliveryman in the process. Investigators said it
was not immediately clear whether the trucker knew he had struck anyone.
Ramirez
worked as a deliveryman for a local pizzeria. The owner said his
co-workers are devastated, and they collected donations for his family according to ABC News
According to Queens Gazette the Police are still looking for the truck driver who did not remain for questioning.
Hugo's family made and installed a ghost bike in his memory near to where he was hit.
