NEW YORK, NY: Bicyclists, walkers, families and friends will come together
on Sunday, March 13 to honor and remember the men, women and children
killed while walking or biking on New York City's streets in 2010.
Bicyclists will ride from locations in Queens, the Bronx, Staten Island,
North and South Brooklyn and traverse the city, stopping at thirteen Ghost
Bikes, laying flowers and paying respects to bicyclists killed in 2010.
The four bicycle rides and a group on foot will meet at Brooklyn Borough
Hall, where bicyclists and pedestrians will dedicate a memorial to all of
the unknown victims of traffic crashes in 2010. According to the NYC DOT,
18 cyclists and 151 pedestrians were killed on New York City streets in
2010. In 2009, 156 pedestrians and 12 bicyclists were killed here.
The ride and walk are hosted by the NYC Street Memorial Project. A full
schedule of the ride, including stops at each Ghost Bike location, is
available at: www.ghostbikes.org/node/754.
