A cyclist from Sao Paulo wrote this explanation about Manoel's ghost bike installation:"This ghost bike was put on the pole for two reasons. First, when the vehicle ran Manoel over, the cyclist was thrown to the height of that pole. And also, at the wall near where the ghost bike was supposed to be installed, someone had written (a long time ago),"How much is your indifference worth? A lifetime of slavery?" People decided to leave that inscription there, but to put the ghost bike on the pole to avoid confusion with that message. The article says that not a single newspaper published anything about this guy's death because he was poor and lived in a favela." The painted slogan "Devagar, Vidas" means, “Go Slow, Lives” which is a wordplay on the the typical “Go Slow, School” warnings painted in school zones throughout the city.Read the original article (in Portuguese) here.
