TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Friends
and family gathered Wednesday to remember a Topeka man, killed while
riding his bike in September.
Friends and family say
their goal is not just to remember a lost life, but to remind drivers to
slow down and share the road with bicyclists.
A ghost bike now stands near the site where
55-year-old Tim Roberts died. Roberts was bicycling west on southwest
53rd St. near Kent Pl. in September, when he was hit from behind by a
Chrysler Pacifica, driven by 40-year-old Marc A. Schultz.
The ghost bike, stripped and painted white,
stands to remind drivers to be cautious and attentive. Roberts' four
daughters decorated the bike. His wife bolted it in place as a tribute
to Tim's life.
The Shawnee County District Attorney's Office is
still waiting for blood and urine tests to come back from the KBI before
deciding whether to file any criminal charges.
The Roberts family says they plan to file a civil suit against the driver of the car, regardless of the DA's decision.
