A ghost bike was installed in memory of Tracy Mililo in Brookline, who hit her head after falling off her bike. She died in the hospital of head injuries on September 11.The ghost bike was made and installed by a local person, who was touched by her story.

We have since heard that this ghost bike was removed by the police on December 30th, 2010 because of complaints by some residents of the Town and that it is currently being held by the police.

Tracy was remembered by friends and family in the Boston Globe:

Ms.
Milillo graduated from Sachem High School East in Farmingville, N.Y.,
in 2005. In May, she earned a bachelor of arts degree in English
writing and literature from Emmanuel College.

Ms. Milillo was a member of the women’s volleyball team.

“She
will be remembered as a vibrant and optimistic young woman whose
dynamic gifts touched all those who had the pleasure of knowing her,’’
college officials said in a statement.

Ms.
Milillo planned to take classes at St. John’s University in Queens,
N.Y., this fall, to learn to teach English as a second language, said
her father, Dominick Milillo Jr.

More than 70 friends came to visit her while she was in the hospital, he said.

“She obviously made a big impression on everyone she met,’’ he said.

Besides
her father, Ms. Milillo leaves her mother, Barbara, and a brother,
Dominick III, all of Holbrook; four uncles; and an aunt.

Tom wrote a poem for Tracy

Cycling advocates reported that she crashed on a dangerous road that has long been planned to have a bike lane in this article.

Channel 5 News reports that police are still trying to put together the reason for her fall. Anyone who witnessed or has information about the crash is asked to contact Brookline police at 617-730-2233.
