Six year old Mason Sterne was riding his bike with his family on the East Bay Bike path torward Warren crossing Pappasquash Road when a 21 year old driver fatally struck him.
The next day, crews were observed cutting back brush which may have impeded the drivers' view of crossing cyclists.
According to his obituary
Mason was going to be entering the first grade at the Chase Street
School, in Somerset, this year. Mason enjoyed playing in the
Somerset/Swansea Youth Soccer League, swimming in his pool, helping his
mom and dad around the house, and spending time with his sisters. He
also loved to mow the lawn with his dad and help out in the yard.
A memorial appeared near the crash site almost immediately, and has been maintained ever since.
In July 2019 a playground at this school was dedicated to his memory.
A fundraiser was established to support Mason's family, nearly meeting it's goal.
The family filed submitted a claim against the town for negligence.
