"Will" Wilson was struck and killed by a car while he was riding to a friend's house.

Will was an accomplished athlete at the Citadel, where he graduated in 2007.

A family friend wrote us to describe his installation of a memorial for Will:

One of my son's friends and close friends of our family was hit & killed by
a drunk motorist last summer.  He was biking over to a friends house to go
for a run.  He ran track at The Citadel and was a Citadel graduate. It was
quite by accident that I locked a bike to the street sign where he was hit.
A neighbor had thrown a bike away and it was on a whem that I Gorilla
locked it to the post hoping that his family wouldn't be upset by my
actions.  I didn't know anything about ghostbikes, so I turned the saddle
around backwards to signify that a biker had gone down here.  (much like
boots are placed in the sturrups backwards on a horse for a fallen
president)

People added flowers to it and it even made the State paper here
in South Carolina.  William's parents embraced the monument and the city
has, much to my surprise, left it alone. The only problem we have is that
the rear tire keeps getting stolen.  Since all Williams organs were donated
to those that needed them, we thought it ironic that even the bike has
become a donor! Thanks,
Rod

Letters may be sent to William's parents, and condolences can be accepted as part of his memorial scholarship at the Citadel.  Please send to:
