Age: 15

Location:
Talbot Road East
Leamington
Canada

Kyle was run down by a hit and run driver just 300m from his house on Talbot Road East. Kyle sustained massive head and internal injuries that the coroner referred to as "un-treatable injuries"

The driver that hit him, kept on going...the police and the coroner thought a semi-truck hit him.

Kyle's dad, Eric writes:

Kyle was 15 years old, turning 16 on Sept., 28 and my birthday is Sept 29, we always shared our birthdays together. Kyle was nearly 6 foot tall and had been an active member of the Royal Canadian Army Cadets since he was 12, he belonged to 2918 corps based out of the Kingsville Legion. This past summer he completed his 3rd camp at CTC Blackdown at CFB Borden near Angus Ontario, he spent 6 weeks training every summer there. He was up for promotion to Sargent and award of a medal of excellence that the Legion awards Cadets for their exceptional conduct towards community and his fellow Cadets...it was given to my wife and I.

Kyle loved to bike, he would attach a milk crate
to his bike and take his puppy for rides...all over. This past summer, 1 week his platoon canoed and camped in around the thousand islands...another week, they biked & hiked through bike trails off the base up around Collingwood, mountain biking and camping, hiking, cave exploring...he was awarded a pin and hat for being 1 of the 20 young men/women who went above and beyond their physical fitness expectations.

Kyle was in excellent shape. His goal for next summer was to attend camp Raven in British Columbia, 7 week pre-military training through an aboriginal program. He only had to finish 2 years of high school and Army Cadets and then he wanted to join the Canadian Forces.

Kyle wasn't afraid to live life at all, willing to help anyone needing help especially his family and his elders...he wasn't the extravagant type of kid who had to have the latest in electronics or whatever it maybe, very happy go-lucky, not afraid to work for what he wanted.

I sent an email to the minister of transportation asking to label ours a "Community Safety Zone" she replied and forwarded my letter
and her reply to the Essex County Highway department.

Several have written their memories of Kyle here
