Caleb Losier
Wednesday, November 12, 2008
Age: 21

Location:
Egerton and Brydges Streets
London , ON
Canada

On the morning of Wednesday November 12th 2008, Caleb Losier was struck by a fuel truck, in the area of Egerton Street and Brydges Street.

"He was a unique person. He never wanted to be better than anybody, just different," his brother Gilles Losier, 25, said yesterday. (in an article in the London Free Press)

His brother loved cycling, music and video games.

"The cycling kept him from becoming a couch potato," Gilles joked. "He lived life to the fullest. He never took anything for granted."

Caleb worked as an information technology technician and commuted each day from his apartment on Cheapside Street to his job on Exeter Road, Gilles said.

Commuting on a bicycle in the city is not easy, Gilles said. "You are always worrying."

The close-knit family, dad Mel, mom Gerrie, Gilles, Caleb and Jasmine, 19, moved from New Brunswick to Stratford about five years ago. The two brothers went to Westervelt College in London and shared the apartment on Cheapside for several years.

"For me, I will always remember his passion for life," Gilles said, his voice breaking.

The family was invited to the ceremony Sunday night when the ghost bike was erected.

"It was very emotional. He had lots and lots of friends," Gilles said.

The Coroner said Caleb was traveling south on the sidewalk on Egerton Street when he was struck by the fuel truck, which was making a right turn into the CN Railway yard at Egerton and Brydges Street.

"Video surveillance reveals that the fuel truck came to a stop on Egerton Street for the railway crossing arms, and a light colored car and then a dark colored vehicle came to a stop behind the fuel truck just as the crossing arms lifted. The cyclist rode passed these vehicles on the right and was beside the truck when it turned," said London police Sgt. Tom O'Brien, Traffic Management Unit.

Due to the internal injuries to his chest caused by the collision, Caleb passed away instantly.

Police are appealing to the drivers and or occupants of the two vehicles driving southbound behind the fuel truck to come forward and speak to the police.

The coroner advised that Caleb was doing everything right and that there was nothing he could have done to change the course of the collision.

Caleb passed away doing two of the three things he was most passionate about; Riding his bicycle and listening to his Tunes. The Coroner stated to our family that the music was not a factor in the collision.

We Love Him
May he rest in peace
