Jose was fatally struck by a hit and run driver right near his home. He died later in hospital from his injuries.
We installed this ghost bike after it was displayed at the 2023 blessing of the bikes at the location of the fatal crash. We were then contacted by his wife who gave us his name and told us they lived two doors down from the crash.

MOTT HAVEN, The Bronx (WABC) -- A bicyclist is in critical condition after he was involved in a hit-and-run accident in the Bronx.
The bicyclist and a car and later an SUV collided at Brook Avenue and East 142nd Street about 9:30 p.m. Saturday.
Officials say the driver of the SUV left the scene.
The bicyclist is in the hospital being treated for severe head injuries. Officials say he was not wearing a helmet
