According to one article: Over 200 bikers assembled at Praça do Ciclista (Bikers Square), on Avenida Paulista, for asilent protest after the death of Márcia Regina de Andrade Prado. OnJanuary 14th, Márcia was hit by a bus while she was riding her bike.The protesters asked for more safety and respect on the streets. Inthe end of the demonstration, they chained a "ghost bike" near theplace where the fatal accident happened.Treehugger reports:Márcia Regina de Andrade Prado was a well-known bike activist who wasrun-down by a bus last January 14. Her accident exposed one more timethe fragile situation of bikers in large cities and caused greatmobilization among the Sao Paulo's bikers.Just a day before she was killed, Marcia Andrade had spoken to magazine ISTOEabout this: "(In the past 20 years) Drivers have become much moreaggressive. There used to be a lot more care for the bikers. The mostdifficult drivers are those on buses and motorcycles."
