Colorado State Patrol Trooper Nate Reid said the driver of the semi,
Lucio Ramirez of Denver, will be charged with careless driving causing
death. Ramirez, 46, was driving a Villa Lobos Concrete Company gravel
truck at the time of the fatal collision.
Investigators said two
cyclists were riding single-file on Valmont Road when Ramierz turned in
front of them onto a private road.
[The driver hit] Herndon hit the back set of wheels of the truck and was fatally dragged by the truck. The other cyclist was not hurt.
Herndon,
62, was listed as Vice President of Service and Software Sales for Reed
Group, a Broomfield company that specializes in business and absence
management. He graduated with an MBA from University of Denver,
according to his bio provided by Reed Group.
Ramirez was not
charged with a much more serious charge of felony vehicular manslaughter
or homicide. Ramirez was not arrested and will be cited with a ticket.
Ramirez
was most recently ticketed last year for driving with no insurance, and
also was arrested for a Driving While Ability Impaired in 1990.

Just before 7 a.m. Tuesday, emergency crews responded to the scene of the accident that killed Randy Herndon, 62, near Boulder.
He
was cycling west on Valmont Road when, officials say, an eastbound semi
trailer made a left turn in front of him. He was caught in the truck's
rear tires and killed.
By early Tuesday afternoon, a "ghost bike" had been quietly placed near the scene.

A 62-year-old man was
killed near Boulder early Tuesday as he was riding his bike to work and
was struck by a semi trailer whose driver failed to yield, according to
Colorado State Patrol officials.
The cyclist collided with the
rear tires of the truck and was killed instantly. The accident occurred
at 6379 Valmont Road east of Boulder at about 6:50 a.m., according to
State Patrol Trooper Dennis Wilder.
The truck, owned by Villa
Lobos Concrete, was headed east on Valmont when the driver made a left
turn into the driveway of Pioneer Sand Landscape Supplies, according to
Wilder. The bicyclist was headed west on Valmont Road on his way to work
and was caught up in the wheels of the turning truck, Wilder said.
