Thanks for Helping us Buy Supplies to Build 16 Ghostbikes

Thanks to everyone who made a donation to support the costs associated with making and installing 16 ghost bikes  at our 5/21/2016 workday. We raised $630 in total from the donations of 8 people who we will thank individually- also thank you to everyone who came out to strip, paint and install 16 ghost bikes. The costs worked out to around $40 per ghost bike.  

We are not collecting any more donations at this time, stay tuned for more donation opportunities should they arise. 

Here's an accounting of our expenses for making ghost bikes:

Purchased at a discount from Build it Green

• 200 feet of chain - $120 (for locking up ghost bikes)

Home Depot run #1: $170.00

• Bolt Cutter (for stripping bikes and moving ghost bikes when needed)
• 18 locks (for locking up ghost bikes)
• 40 bolts and nuts (for installing ghost bike signs)
• Simple Green (for cleaning degreasing bikes before painting)

Home Depot run #2: $270.00

• 48 cans of spray paint and primer (for painting ghost bikes)
• Masks (for protecting volunteers)
• Gloves (for protecting volunteers)
• Sandpaper (for prepping bikes for painting)
• Garbage bags (for collecting all the removed bike parts)
• Tarps (for protecting the backyard of the church)

Snacks and drinks for volunteers: $50.00

PayPal charges:

• for collecting donations (3%): $20.00

Non cash donations: 

• Volunteer hours (thanks everyone!)
• Transport costs for picking up bikes and installing ghost bikes (4 drivers, 1 cargo bike rider)
• Placques (these were purchased 5 years ago from previous donations)
